On November 5-6, 2026, Davis Polk partner and Tax practice head David Schnabel and partner Kara Mungovan will be among the speakers at the University of Chicago School of Law’s 2026 Federal Tax Conference.

David will moderate the “Too many notes? Approaches to writing tax guidelines” panel. Topics discussed will include what scope of guidance taxpayers and the IRS are best served by, and the pros and cons of each approach.

Kara will speak on the “Reflections on meaningless and meaningfulness: Contributions versus exchanges” panel. Topics discussed will include how aspects of federal income tax laws regarding the transfer of a corporation’s stock or debt by shareholders have developed over time, how the law may be rationalized and some of the challenges of that rationalization.
