Davis Polk has broad and varied experience advising corporations, major banks and other financial institutions in Latin America in capital markets, finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, restructuring, international dispute resolution, and a variety of other corporate and finance matters. We also advise underwriters, lending institutions and financial advisers. We have represented clients in the region since the 1960s.
While our lawyers in New York have traditionally played an important role in Latin American capital markets, the establishment of our São Paulo office in 2011 reinforced our extensive Latin American capabilities for handling the most sensitive and complex transactions in the region and beyond. This local presence, consisting of a number of the market’s most highly regarded international practitioners, has enabled us to provide our clients with a single source of high-quality legal counsel.
Our in-depth regional knowledge of business practices and regulatory requirements allows us to effectively deliver the legal advice our clients need. The long-standing client relationships that we have built with many major Latin American companies are a testament to the success and strong commitment of our experienced lawyers on the ground. Consistently recognized for innovation and thought leadership, Davis Polk has been named “Americas Law Firm of the Year” by International Financial Law Review multiple times.
The Latin America practice consists of approximately 20 lawyers, including 10 partners resident in our New York and São Paulo offices. Most members are fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese. The group spans our global practice in the most sophisticated transactional areas, and lawyers in the group have advised on many of the largest, most complex and first-of-their-kind transactions ever completed across Latin America.
