1911: Future partner John W. Davis is elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, the beginning of a distinguished career in government that will include service as U.S. Solicitor General.

1915: Future partner Frank L. Polk becomes counselor of the Department of State, where he will later become Under Secretary of State.

1917-1918: Wardwell serves as an American Red Cross officer in a humanitarian mission to Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution. This is the first of his several leadership positions in humanitarian efforts in Russia over the next 25 years.
