Davis Polk partner and Finance practice co-head Vanessa Jackson was profiled in Law.com for “How I made practice group chair” as part of the “How I made it” series. In the Q&A, Vanessa discusses why she chose to become a finance lawyer, the qualities required for effective leadership, key priorities for the firm’s Finance practice and more.

On firm priorities, Vanessa said, “We want our clients to know that we view our relationships with them holistically. It’s not about viewing a client as a ‘finance’ client, but rather a Davis Polk client. From a client’s one-off or simple questions, to the most complex transaction or litigation matter, our priority is for our clients to know we are always available and eager to help them achieve their own success.”

When asked why she wanted to be a practice group leader, Vanessa explained, “A big part of it for me was the people in the group at Davis Polk. Everyone works so hard and has made so many sacrifices to build this incredible practice. I wanted to give back to the associates and counsel, and being co-head of the practice helps me do so in big and small ways. This can be an unsung part of the role that, personally, I enjoy and that gives me remarkable fulfillment.”
