Davis Polk partner and IP Litigation practice head Ashok Ramani was featured on “That IP Podcast,” which explores the careers of top IP professionals. In the conversation, Ashok shares his journey into IP, from engineering classes at UC Berkeley to Harvard Law, a federal district court clerkship in D.C. and early trial experience at a boutique firm, to now leading Davis Polk’s trial-focused IP Litigation practice.

Ashok offers insights on what moves the needle in high-stakes IP litigation: getting practice, thinking fast and relentless mentorship. He also gives practical advice for IP professionals and reflects on what he would tell his younger self, saying, “The advice I would give myself is stick with it, because being an associate doing litigation, especially for high-stakes cases, can involve a lot of nose-to-the-grindstone drudgery,” which he explains can be very challenging, but the payoff — the exciting moments in court, developing legal strategies and helping clients solve challenging problem — makes it worthwhile.
