Davis Polk partner and Northern California office head Michael Diz has been named among Daily Journal’s 2026 “Top 100 Lawyers and Distinguished Counsel.” The annual list honors the leading lawyers throughout California across a variety of sectors, including private practice, academia and public service.

Michael was recognized for advising Penumbra on its $14.5 billion sale to Boston Scientific, the first major healthcare deal of 2026 and Boston Scientific’s second-largest takeover to date, as well as for his work advising TPG on its $2.2 billion acquisition of AvidXchange in partnership with Corpay.

In his winner’s profile, Michael said he credits mentorship as a defining factor in his career, noting that it taught him how serving clients requires understanding their business and finding real-world solutions to achieve their goals. 

The profile also highlighted Michael’s work managing the strategic direction of Davis Polk’s Northern California office, including the relocation of the office to accommodate the firm’s growth and the launch of Davis Polk’s Los Angeles office.
