Davis Polk advised Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in connection with its $500 million offering of 2.45% senior notes due 2020 in reliance on the Section 3(a)(2) exemption of the Securities Act. This is the debut offering of U.S. dollar-denominated “green bonds” by a Japanese issuer, with the proceeds expected to be used to finance projects that promote renewable energy, energy efficiency and resource productivity.
