Michael represents a wide range of clients in all manner of civil litigation matters, including securities litigation; M&A-related, contractual and other commercial disputes; constitutional and public policy issues; and appeals. He has represented financial institutions, asset managers, and companies in industries including media and entertainment, pharmaceuticals and insurance.
Experience
Michael’s representations prior to joining Davis Polk include:
- Rio Tinto in securities litigation concerning a multibillion-dollar investment in Africa
- Fitch in litigation arising out of credit ratings for collateralized debt obligations
- Jay-Z in a multi-jurisdictional dispute concerning the sale of his share in a joint venture to Bacardi
- An ad hoc group of Serta Simmons’ creditors at trial concerning a liability management transaction
- Blue Owl as plaintiff relating to its investment in a failed e-commerce company
- Oaktree Capital Management in bankruptcy litigation relating to its investment in a failed shipping company
- Patriarch Partners and its affiliates in several disputes with former business partners and investors in matters pending before bankruptcy, trial and appellate courts
- Forest Hills Stadium in several matters challenging its right to continue hosting events
- Several companies as both plaintiffs and defendants in litigations related to broken M&A deals and other contract disputes
