Christopher B. Hockett

Mr. Hockett is a partner in Davis Polk’s Litigation Department. Based in the Menlo Park office, he has 30 years of experience representing clients in a broad range of high-profile commercial litigation matters, including antitrust and unfair competition disputes, IP litigation, securities litigation, professional malpractice matters, contract cases and consumer class actions. He also has represented clients in connection with government investigations and the antitrust aspects of mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Hockett has represented more than a dozen Fortune 50 clients, and has handled cases in over 35 jurisdictions nationwide. He has experience litigating in a wide variety of industries, including technology, e-commerce, finance, telecommunications, media, sports, legal services and manufacturing.

Mr. Hockett’s clients have praised him as a “tremendous trial lawyer” and an “excellent communicator” who does a "very good job at keeping things practical and simple while dealing with, and addressing, the complications of the case." He is also described as “the whole package” and “an astoundingly good lawyer” with “terrific judgment and substantive knowledge.” (Chambers)

Mr. Hockett is the former global head of a 450-lawyer litigation practice at another firm, and currently heads Davis Polk’s antitrust practice. From 2013 to 2014, he was Chair of the 8,500-member ABA Section of Antitrust Law.

  • Won judgment for computer manufacturer accused of monopolization

  • Tried and won defense judgment in antitrust action filed to stop newspaper merger and related divestiture

  • Lead counsel in a variety of securities class action and derivative claims in industries such as accounting, e-commerce, banking and telecommunications

  • Lead counsel in more than a dozen patent lawsuits involving a variety of technologies, including computers, software, e-commerce, medical devices, optical networking and telecommunications
