Avi Gesser Discusses Corporate Data Protection in WSJ Pro Cybersecurity

On April 9, 2019, Davis Polk partner Avi Gesser was recently interviewed by WSJ Pro Cybersecurity regarding best practices for protecting sensitive corporate data when employees depart. In “Former Employees Can Expose Sensitive Corporate Data – Sometimes Inadvertently,” Gesser explains that “to protect data from being exposed by outgoing employees, businesses should create an inventory of what systems can access” and should set “clear guidelines for what information employees can share after they leave.” He also considers actions companies can take to stop outgoing employees from taking sensitive data, legal considerations companies should keep in mind, and technological tools that could help companies protect their data form former employees.
