Davis Polk partners Charles Duggan, Deanna Kirkpatrick and Linda Chatman Thomsen will be among the speakers at PLI’s 45th Annual Institute on Securities Regulation. The program will be held November 6-8, 2013, in New York.
Duggan will speak on the “Private Securities Litigation” panel, addressing key considerations in evaluating bringing a securities class action; limits of U.S. jurisdiction; key considerations in defending a securities class action; juggling derivative, class actions and regulatory investigations; and the recent rise in proxy disclosure litigation.
Kirkpatrick’s panel, “How’s Life in the Capital Markets?,” will address the impact of the JOBS Act; developments with IPOs; capital raising in the private markets for public and private companies; challenges facing “private” companies with an expanding shareholder base; as well as new products and techniques and market structure developments.
Thomsen will speak on “The Defense Perspective: Strategies and Considerations in Responding to New Policies and Priorities in Securities Enforcement.” The panel will discuss new leadership; accounting and disclosure fraud; expanding use of risk based analytics; the litigation and trial option; strategies when your case is on the front page; the Dodd-Frank Whistleblower Program; and ethical issues arising in practice.
