We are a premier boutique practice and work on the most complex and innovative transactions in India for the most desirable clients. The world-class experience of this practice strengthens the depth of our client loyalty.
Our first transaction in India dates back to 1920s. Today, Davis Polk has over 25 lawyers, including 8 partners, who are extensively involved in Indian M&A and capital markets transactions. 2007 was a watershed year in the firm’s commitment to India. Davis Polk brought together a group of partners with significant India experience and formally constituted the India Practice Group within the firm under the leadership of Kirtee Kapoor. Partners in Davis Polk’s India Practice Group include William Barron, Alan Denenberg, Richard Drucker, Eugene Gregor, Kirtee Kapoor, Mark Lehmkuhler, Thomas Reid and Margaret Tahyar.
Based out of Hong Kong, our India Practice includes two senior Indian naturals, partner Kirtee Kapoor and counsel Ferish Patel, plus a dedicated team of lawyers who have rich experience and knowledge in advising on Indian inbound and outbound capital markets transactions. Kirtee Kapoor is a corporate and M&A partner who has moved from New York to the firm’s Hong Kong office to further enhance and strengthen the firm’s focus on India. In October 2007, The New York Times listed Mr. Kapoor as one of the leading dealmakers on Wall Street under 40 years of age (“Facebook of Wall Street’s Future,” The New York Times, Oct. 3, 2007). Mr. Kapoor is also listed in Chambers as a leading lawyer and is on the executive committee of INSOL for India. His experience spans public and private M&A, credit, restructuring, bankruptcy, workout, capital markets, fund formation and a variety of strategic and advisory corporate engagements.
