Affinity Groups

The firm supports a number of affinity groups for lawyers who share common interests or backgrounds, designed to enhance our ability to offer networking and mentoring opportunities. They include affinity groups for African-American/Black; Asian/South Asian/Middle Eastern; Hispanic/Latino American; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT); parent and women lawyers.

African-American/Black

  • Attended Broadway performance of “A Raisin in the Sun”

  • Hosted the 5th Annual Davis Polk Black Alumni Dinner with
    guest speaker and Davis Polk alum, TIAA-CREF President and
    CEO, Roger Ferguson

  • Co-hosted with the LGBT Affinity Group a documentary
    film screening of “Brother Outsider” about the life and work
    of Bayard Rustin, chief organizer of the 1963 March on
    Washington; Rustin dared to live as an openly gay man during
    the fiercely homophobic 1940s, 1950s and 1960s


Asian/South Asian/Middle Eastern (ASAME)

  • Guest speaker: Helen Wan, Associate General Counsel of Time
    Inc. and author

  • Guest speaker: Jerry Kang, Law Professor at the UCLA School
    of Law School, on the topic of implicit bias (co-hosted with all
    affinity groups)

  • Biennial partner panel discussion on how ethnicity has
    affected their career paths, and the benefits and challenges of
    practicing overseas

  • Hosted reception for Davis Polk ASAME alumni

  • Co-hosted with client Bank of America a program/networking
    event featuring Consultant Tracy LaLonde on “Strategic
    Networking In and Out of the Workplace”


Hispanic/Latino-American

  • Co-hosted speed mentoring event for new ethnically diverse associates

  • Co-hosted with the Black Affinity Group a welcome reception for summer associates

  • Sponsored networking event at Novecento designed to bring awareness to Las LÍderes and expand the network of professionals interested in LatinoJustice generally; Las LÍderes was formed in 2012 in order to expand LatinoJustice’s outreach to young professionals; a Davis Polk associate serves on the board of Las LÍderes


LGBT

  • Fielded a team for AIDS Walk New York

  • Hosted LeGal panel discussion on 2013 “Year in Review” of top LGBT developments in the courts and various legislatures

  • Hosted reception at a partner’s home for LGBT lawyers and summer associates
