Summer Work Assignments

The administration of our summer program is unique and flexible. Each summer associate meets with the summer coordinators, a litigator and a corporate associate, who are assigned full-time to oversee the program, to discuss their principal areas of interest. Summer associates can work on projects from any department within the firm; many choose to work on matters in multiple departments.

The firm believes that pro bono work is essential to our lawyers’ professional development and provides summer associates with the opportunity to work on a variety of pro bono assignments. In addition to myriad pro bono opportunities available within the firm, we offer interested summer associates paid, two-week externships at several different public interest organizations within New York City.

Overseas Rotations

Each summer, a large number of summer associates will spend four weeks in one of our overseas offices. Many others work and travel domestically and internationally each summer.

Any summer associate who works 10 weeks or more in our summer program may request an overseas office rotation. Selection is based on many factors, including relevant experience and language skills and demonstrated interest in spending time overseas as part of one's future professional development. Summer associates must accept their summer offer in order to be eligible for consideration for an overseas office rotation.

Upon returning to the firm as an associate, all corporate and tax associates may consider an overseas rotation, whether or not he or she was assigned overseas during the summer program.
