Latin Lawyer has named Independência S.A.’s restructuring as its 2011 “Restructuring Deal of the Year.” Davis Polk partner Maurice Blanco acted as counsel to Independência in connection with its issuance of $165 million in new notes and the restructuring of more than $525 million in outstanding indebtedness, as part of its emergence from Brazilian bankruptcy proceedings.
