Two partners from Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP earned "Lawyer of the Year" honors in their respective practices from Best Lawyers. Donald S. Bernstein was named the 2010 New York Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Lawyer of the Year, and Robert B. Fiske Jr. was named the 2010 New York Bet-the-Company Litigator of the Year. Davis Polk was one of only two firms with two lawyers to earn this recognition. Bernstein, who heads Davis Polk's Insolvency and Restructuring Group and is the current Chair of the National Bankruptcy Conference, represents creditors, debtors and acquirers in major corporate restructurings and Chapter 11 cases. His major matters this year have included advising Ford Motor Company in its $9.9 billion debt restructuring, and JPMorgan Chase in connection with the path-breaking $3.48 billion credit bid it made on behalf of Delphi's DIP lenders to acquire Delphi. Fiske, a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and Whitewater Independent Counsel, is a senior partner at Davis Polk who is nationally recognized as a leading practitioner in the areas of professional liability, securities, product liability and white collar criminal defense. He recently led the Siemens AG legal team that negotiated a successful resolution with the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission of alleged worldwide FCPA violations.
