Five Davis Polk Deals Named 2009 “Deals of the Year” by IFR
1/20/2010

Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP was lead counsel on five transactions that were named 2009 “Deals of the Year” by International Financing Review, including advising:

  • Ford Motor Company in its $10 billion debt restructuring, which was named “Restructuring Deal of the Year.” According to IFR, Ford “took advantage of every opportunity offered by the debt and equity markets, and created several opportunities of its own” in the deal.
  • Roche on its $16.5 billion multi-tranche facility, which received two awards, “US Dollar Bond Deal of the Year” and “Investment-Grade Corporate Bond of the Year.” IFR noted, “beating the odds, rewriting the corporate finance rulebook and putting optimism back in the capital markets.”
  • Warner Chilcott on its $4.15 billion financing package to finance the acquisition of Procter & Gamble's global pharmaceuticals business, which was named “Leveraged Loan of the Year.” IFR called it a “watershed deal,” quoting a source who stated, “Other deals came after and owe their success or their possibility to the Warner Chilcott deal.”
  • Banco Santander Brasil in its $7.5 billion IPO, the largest IPO in Latin American history, and according to IFR a deal that “highlighted the ability of large global companies to realize the value of their investments in emerging markets.”
  • HeidelbergCement AG on its €4.4 billion offering, which was named “EMEA Equity Issue of the Year,” and described by IFR as “both elegant and ambitious.”
